MatchMedics is delighted to be a silver sponsor at the 6th EMSSA International Conference in October 2017.

Our Head of Medical Recruitment, Graham Cosgrave, will be attending the conference and he will be delighted to meet with you to talk about career options in Emergency Medicine available with our clients in Ireland.

We have compiled some initial information below so, if you are thinking of swapping   for read on.

Basics

Ireland has a population of around 4 million people and is a relatively small country with a network of motorways radiating from the main hub of Dublin – most towns and cities with hospitals are within 2-3 hours maximum drive of the capital. International airports at Dublin, Cork and Shannon link to the UK and continental Europe as well as North America and the Middle East.

  • Most emergency care in Ireland is delivered by the public health system through the Health Services Executive

  • You can see a full list of public hospitals in Ireland here.

  • In order to work in Ireland as a doctor, you will need to be registered with the Medical Council of Ireland – full details of how to do this can be found on their First Time Applicants page.

  • Work permits for non-EU citizens are issued through each employing hospital at no charge to the doctor. South African passport holders do not need an entry visa to Ireland.

  • The Royal College of Physicians in Ireland have produced a useful overview of the route to becoming a specialist doctor in Ireland.

  • You can review the training process for doctors in Emergency Medicine in Ireland.

  • Registrar pay scales are published here.

  • Consultant pay scales range from €130,000 – 180,000 per year gross.

Jobs

Career opportunities for Emergency Medicine doctors in Ireland are plentiful and the jobs market is reasonably fluid meaning there are both long-term, permanent options and fixed-term contracts of 6-12 months duration available.

We are currently actively recruiting for posts across the country at Consultant and Registrar level:

  • Registrar, regional general hospital, North West. Taking charge of a busy department and supervising more junior doctors in training.

  • Registrar, large tertiary centre, Mid West. Brand new facility with state-of-the-art design, services and equipment.

  • Consultant, regional general hospital, West. You will be part of the clinical leadership team managing a busy department with a highly varied load of emergency cases.

  • Registrar, teaching hospital, Dublin. High profile emergency care centre looking for at least 2 years experience in Paediatric emergency care.

  • Consultant, regional general hospital, Midlands – Adding your expertise to the existing management team, providing clinical, strategic and operational leadership duties and responsibilities.

New opportunities arise regularly and we are usually able to match your own individual needs to a hospital and location that suits.
